Big start for Bayside in 2010The year started with 24 participants from 13 primary schools and 7 secondary schools/institutions attending a TLfS workshop at the Hemisphere Conference Centre at Holmesglen College. The Bayside Glen Eira Kingston Local Learning and Employment Network (BGK LLEN) is a key partner of the TLfS program in the region and is investing funds, resources and expertise into the project to assist in its establishment in local schools. In addition, Bayside City Council has also generously provided some funding into the TLfS program in this region.
In 2008 and 2009 the TLfS program was successfully piloted in several local secondary and some primary schools, with outstanding results for the schools, teachers and students who took part. Since 2002 the BGK LLEN has been funded by the Victorian Government to assist in improving the education, training and employment outcomes of young people aged 15 - 19 years and assist Victoria in reaching a 90% Year 12 or equivalent completion rate by 2010. From 2010 - 2013, the BGK LLEN will now be funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to support the education and transition outcomes of younger members of our community, from 10 - 19 years of age. In doing so, we hope to work closely with local government, catholic and independent primary schools to assist them in building capacity and establishing effective partnerships aimed at building upon their school's successes to date. TLfS is an initiative that we have evaluated as being a high quality partnership development, networking and capacity building program for primary and secondary schools.
