Forest industry sees the benefits of supporting TLfS

Forests are an integral part of the lives of all Australians. They provide the newspapers we read and the timber our houses are built from; they hold recreational and cultural value; and they provide environmental services that are essential for our health and well-being. Forest Wood Products Australia Limited (FWPA) was the key supporter of the TLfS program during 2008. As a sign of their commitment to the development of foresters in the future, FWPA could see the benefit of combining leadership training with hands on vocational projects in the forestry industry.

Sam Citroen (front centre) from URS Forestry, with Caroline Packham (next to Sam) Facilitator, Jane Stewart (top left), Teacher (top right) and TLfS Participants from Canterbury Girls School FWPA and other forestry representatives worked with us to develop a range of information about career pathways, project topics and work placement opportunities. This information formed the basis of the industry specific information and helped us gain a better understanding of how they can maximise industry opportunities for the participants. The FWPA also helped organise a guest speaker who delivered an insightful presentation and managed to inspire some great discussion about the forestry industry amongst the participants. We hope this activity continues in the years to come.
