TLfS Overview - students

Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability (TLfS) is a new initiative that helps young people, just like you, understand and appreciate the key issues of sustainability, while also gaining the knowledge and skills to become leaders in their chosen career.

There is a Primary and Secondary version of the TLfS program.  The Secondary program is made up of the following: Education Activities, Project Activities and Leadership Activities.  It is also supported by a Sustainability Youth Forum.

TLfS Secondary Units

1) Education Activities are based on a 15 Module Course.  These Modules cover leadership and sustainability issues, project management and career and vocational information.  One of the Modules is based on a full day outdoor activity held away from the school grounds in a natural environment.

2) Project Activities are geared towards getting first hand knowledge and/or experience in sustainability related issues.  Ideally, projects should also challenge you to consider your own career pathway and how you might use this information and skills in your future career.  These projects can be undertaken in the following ways:

  • Research – conducting a research project to discover new knowledge in regards to sustainability
  • Enterprise – planning and operating a business activity that encompasses elements of sustainability
  • Work Placement – working in an organisation to get first hand experience in the career of your choice and tackling some sustainability issues on the ground

The Members section of this website contains a database of possible projects.  These ideas cover a wide range of ideas including practical suggestions for interesting and topical research projects, enterprise ideas and work placement opportunities.  If your school is a participating in the TLfS program, ask your teacher to help you access further project information from the Members section of this website.

3) Leadership Activities are based on a number of events.  The objective is to give students an opportunity to showcase what they have learnt and how they have applied this in completing their projects.  If you complete the TLfS program, will receive a Graduation Certificate.  Best of all you can enter your project in a TLfS competition and maybe even win an award.
