What we do

Disturbing global trends continue to evidence the fact that human activities threaten our ability to meet the needs of present generations without compromising the needs of future generations.  Today’s leaders must not only take responsibility for their past actions, but they must begin to design and adopt technological and economic activities that sustain rather than degrade the earth’s natural environment, enhance human health and well being and live within the limits of our natural systems.

Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability (TLfS) is a new initiative that helps young people understand and appreciate the key principles and issues of sustainability while also gaining the knowledge and skills to become leaders in their chosen career.  The program’s training in sustainability leadership is based on a holistic and interactive approach to learning that respects the student’s prior experience, knowledge and skills.

Objective

The objective is to help young people understand the world around them as well as helping them to develop the ability to think for themselves, communicate their thoughts and feelings, act on their own beliefs and help others act in an ethical and socially responsible way.  The end result will be a group of young scientists, engineers, farmers, business people and others with a shared vision and the knowledge and skills to change their own daily actions and to lead their chosen industries onto a more sustainable future.

Our goal is to make the TLfS program one of the leading youth leadership & sustainability training programs, not just in Australia  but ultimately in other countries around the world.

Activities

The TLfS program involves various sectors of the community and is based on a number of different activities.  This includes:

Vision

Our overall vision is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for sustainability leadership, personal growth and career success.

We will do this by creating an umbrella organisation that provides education programs for young people in leadership and personal growth in the context of sustainability, and linking this with action learning through vocationally based projects. We will also build partnerships with schools, government departments, industry and the community in the development and delivery of the TLfS program.
