Where to from here?

The Co-Founders of the Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability program have personally trained, mentored, monitored and evaluated the TLfS program in schools across Victoria.  We are now joining forces with local employment networks, industry groups and businesses to create meaningful project opportunities and strong community partnerships.  This will ultimately benefit many sectors of the local community.  Some of the lessons learnt that we will build on in the future include the following:

  • That we need to make the TLfS resources as comprehensive as possible to help the teachers and facilitators in the delivery of the program in their classrooms, while allowing them the freedom to select the activities and approaches which will best suit the particular circumstances of each school;
  • That we need to support the teachers and educators in the delivery of the TLfS program through ongoing mentoring and online support;
  • That we need to facilitate Communities of Practice to help build networks in local regions, to provide collegiate support for the teachers and educators and to give them ownership of the overall project in their region or locality;
  • That we need to work closely with local businesses and industry organisations to maximise their input into the TLfS program and thereby strengthen our capacity to deliver meaningful vocational opportunities;
  • That we need to develop the opportunity for secondary schools to use the TLfS materials for the Year 11 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL);
  • That we need to build on one of the major strengths of the TLfS secondary program and that is its strong focus on careers and vocational opportunities; and
  • That we also need to build on the capacity of the TLfS program to change student’s understandings and knowledge about leadership and sustainability, to improve their leadership skills and to increase their confidence and ability to influence their peers and family to change their sustainability behaviours.

TLfS Management is committed to its goal and objectives and will work hard to make the TLfS program one of the leading youth leadership & sustainability training programs in Australia.
